California Go Solar
Do Californians want to start a solar revolution? Boy, do we ever!
One of the organizations jump starting this cause is the California Public Interest Research Group, popularly known as CALPIRG, a student-led activist group that cuts across all University of California campuses.
California’s heat waves, forest fires and the worst drought in its history are blatant warnings that climate change is already here and fully underway. Still we are burning more fossil fuels to power our lives. No worries though, we have simple solutions. Every hour the sun radiates more energy onto the earth than the entire human population uses in one year. By capturing just a tiny fraction of this infinite energy, we can decrease our dependence on fossil fuels, reduce pollution and create thousands of jobs. Not to mention, California is one of the sunniest places in the country!
So in cities across the state, CALPIRG is starting a Go Solar campaign. We are asking Santa Barbara City Hall to adopt groundbreaking policies to make solar power more accessible and affordable to everyone. Powerful utility and fossil fuel companies threatened by the idea of more people generating their own energy are opposing us every step of the way. Let’s show them that we are up for the challenge.
